Tibia malunion with angular deformity: Corrective osteotomy and intramedullary fixation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Tibial malunions, which result in deformities such shortening, lengthening, aberrant rotation, or angulation, are characterised by the healing of tibial fractures an unacceptably abnormal alignment These can have adverse effects on patients, as pain and gait disturbance, well long term development post-traumatic arthritis. Treatment options included osteotomies, plate screws, intramedullary nails, Illizarov fixator, external fixators. As there several surgical techniques to malunion that been proven be effective delivering great clinical results, strategies should tailored each individual patient.

Unexpected angular or rotational deformity after corrective osteotomy
BACKGROUND Codman's paradox reveals a misunderstanding of geometry in orthopedic practice. Physicians often encounter situations that cannot be understood intuitively during orthopedic interventions such as corrective osteotomy. Occasionally, unexpected angular or rotational deformity occurs during surgery. This study aimed to draw the attention of orthopedic surgeons toward the concepts of orie...
متن کاملTri-plane Osteotomy Correction of Distal Radius Malunion Addresses Shortening, Angular, and Rotational Deformity
INTRODUCTION: Rotational malalignment following fracture of the distal radius may be under appreciated and contribute to subluxation and dysfunction of the distal radioulnar joint. Rotational malunion is demonstrated by both plain radiographic and CT imaging. METHODS: Eleven patients with shortened, angular and rotational malunion underwent correction by performance of triplane osteotomy. Addit...
متن کاملTibial rotational osteotomy with intramedullary nail fixation
There are several theoretic advantages of using intramedullary rod fixation for tibial osteotomy fixation. We performed a retrospective review of patients who were treated with a mid-diaphyseal osteotomy of the tibia fixed with an intramedullary rod for isolated, symptomatic tibial torsion. Forty patients (59 tibias) were included in the study and were followed for a minimum of 12 months or unt...
متن کاملCorrective Osteotomy for Intra-Articular Distal Humerus Malunion.
BACKGROUND An intra-articular distal humerus malunion can be disabling. To improve function, reduce pain and/or prevent further secondary osteoarthritis an intra-articular corrective osteotomy can be considered. Herein we present the indications, practical guidelines for pre- operative planning and surgical technique. Subsequently, we provide long-term results in a small series. METHODS We in...
